Later that night as they sat around the cockpit enjoying the balmy evening air, Avalon produced the gold coin he had found in his pantaloon pocket when he had changed out of his dusty, very grubby clothes prior to bathing. He realised he must have slipped it into his pocket unconsciously when he’d led Genevieve over to the wall paintings.

He said, “Ameliana my dear, here, catch. A good luck charm for you,” and flipped the heavy coin up in the air and across the table to her.

With a deft movement she caught the spinning, glittering coin, and as she held it up to the lantern on the table she squinted as she studied the writing and figurehead upon it. “Hmm, that’s strange,” she said after awhile.

Genevieve had been watching her friend’s face intently, and when she saw Ameliana’s look of recognition she was quick to ask, “What is it Ameliana? Do you recognise it?”

“I’ve seen similar coins to this somewhere before,” she replied. “Let me see, where was it?” She furrowed her brow in concentration, but the memory eluded her and she said, “Ah, I can’t recall, but I would swear on my dear, sweet Mother’s grave that I’ve seen it before, but a long, long time ago. It will come to me in time.” She bit down on the coin as Avalon had done, and her strong white teeth left a faint impression upon it.

“Real gold,” she said with a gleam in her eyes. “I wonder what the current value of the chest of coins you mentioned is worth. I’m also very keen to see the paintings on the wall. Perhaps when you return to the Temple tomorrow I can accompany you?”

“Me too,” Sarina said enthusiastically.

“Sure, not a problem. But wear some clothing to protect you from the spiders. In fact there is something else I’ve found that I want to show you all.”

Seeing their curiosity aroused he chuckled before saying, “No my dears, no hints or clues or it won’t be a surprise. You will just have to wait until tomorrow.”

The Princess pouted mischievously and said, “Not even a little hint. You know how very curious I am.”

Avalon laughed, “Sorry Princess, all will be revealed tomorrow. My last word on the matter is; what I have found is something the likes of which will stagger your minds if it is what I believe it to be, but no amount of guesses will even come close, I can assure you.”

The ladies tried all manner of ploys and persuasions to coax the secret out of him, but he remained tight lipped despite their persistent cajoling.
